Cutting board
Sharp knife
Measuring cup
Measuring spoons
Medium-sized bowl
Fork
9-inch pie plate or baking dish

Ingredients

Cooking spray or vegetable oil
1⁄2 cup old-fashioned oats
1⁄4 cup whole-wheat flour
1⁄3 cup brown sugar
1⁄4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1⁄4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1⁄8 teaspoon salt
1⁄2 stick (4 tablespoons) unsalted butter, softened
4 ripe Bosc or Anjou pear, peeled, halved, and cored
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
2 tablespoons honey

Instructions

  1. Turn the oven on and set the heat to 375 degrees. Spray the pie plate with cooking spray (or grease it with oil).

  2. Put the oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in the medium bowl, and use the fork to stir it all together. Mash and stir in the butter until a crumbly mixture forms.

  3. Put the pears in the pie plate, cut side up, and sprinkle the pears with lemon juice, then drizzle them with honey.

  4. Crumble the oat topping all over the pears. Once the oven temperature has reached 375 degrees, put the pie plate in the oven and bake until the pears are softened and the topping is crisp – about 25 minutes. Remove the crisp from the oven and let it cool 15 minutes before serving.
